Motley will report to Nokia's head honcho (president and CEO) Rajeev Suri, but in due course is set to report to a yet-to-be-named head of the recently formed Access Networks Division. (See Nokia Merges Fixed, Mobile Access Units.)
Motley, who began her career at AT&T Bell Labs, held a number of R&D and sales leadership positions at Alcatel-Lucent in both fixed and wireless businesses (including COO of the wireless business), joining Nokia in 2016 as part of the Finnish giant's acquisition of AlcaLu. Since becoming part of the Nokia team, Motley has been in charge of "end-to-end solutions for the North America market," and has most recently been the COO for Nokia's Fixed Networks business group.
She takes over the role as head of Nokia's fixed access business at a pivotal time, as fiber access networks become not only ever more important for the delivery of residential and business services but also play a key role in the "anyhaul" transport architectures that will support 5G rollouts.
