I might vote for "trying to keep cord-cutters in live sporting bundles".... (or essentially trying to maintain legacy business revenues for as long as possible)

@mhhf1ve yes I think you are right as many Co. do try they best this days to prevent customers from "cord cutting" and try to upgrade and offer new services and new privately made shows/series to entice customers to stay with...

I think it's a combination of things. While I went for the fiber option, I think they also have to better develop their wireless businesses such that they can leverage wireless spectrum and 5G technology to compete with big guys like VZ and AT&T.

Otherwise, they risk obsolescing.

@mhh: Their real money comes from the big spenders though, and cord cutters usually arren't business users or consumers that go with all the features. Too much emphasis is placed on cord cutters.

Meanwhile, some cord cutters have seen for themselves first-hand that there's a benefit to not being a cord cutter. (Source: Am a former cord cutter, who reattached the cord.)

I am a cord cutter, though, who sees no reason to re-attach that cord. Unless there's some really compelling bundle?? But I haven't seen one offered yet. I have, though, seen some benefits of OTT services that offer better content on-demand on mobile platforms so that I'm not tied to my living room TV or a single DVR that my cableco would be asking a monthly rental fee for....

@mhh: Different strokes for different folks. I prefer to be tied to the living room TV -- with all of the attendant comforts (including the remote control that comes with it) -- using traditional cable than to deal with multiple devices and extended buffering periods. Do I *need* it? No, of course not. But I'm at a point in my life where I'm willing and able to pay the additional cost for that luxury.

Seriously, I can see how someone might choose to go back to the easy one-box solution. We never used multiple devices, just multiple services so I don't feel your pain in that regard. Roku is an excellent device for watching multiple services and has been great for us. We still pay less than cable. Our ISP is very good so we rarely see buffering at all.

@Michelle: Sure. It's also a content consideration. For my own part, back when I did cut the cord, the majority of shows I liked were just as easily available via OTT/online services.

Nowadays, if I had to give something up, it would be the OTT services in lieu of premium cable -- because their gung-ho drives toward original content (and largely subpar original content at that) while declining to license popular shows means that I'm missing out on way more without Netflix and Hulu and whatnot than without cable.

They should really focus on developing a competitive wireless service because that is almost every tech user's number one priority. Wherever we go, we would see cafes, libraries and more public places using wifi service as an added bonus to lure customers. Hence, to beat the competition within this sector would help them win over consumers.
