US: We're on the Road to Gigabit![]() It's nowhere near gigabit speed, but US Internet is getting faster.
Service providers' investment in ultra-broadband technologies over the past year resulted in a 28% increase in average Internet connection speed in the US, the latest Akamai State of the Internet report found. The peak average Internet connection speed reached 86.5 Mbit/s, up from 67.7 Mbit/s 12 months ago, the first-quarter 2017 study said.

In a flurry of activity throughout the week, Donald (DJ) LaVoy, Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development at the US Department of Agriculture, and his team spent about $145.8 million in the non-urban or suburban areas of seven states.
