IWCE may stand for International Wireless Communications Expo, but the annual event's focus on broadband and fixed access has grown each year as cellular, land mobile radio and broadband technologies, providers and use cases converge.
Taking place from March 5-9 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, IWCE 2018 covers the spectrum (yes, pun intended) of communications technology, from broadband to LTE, from fixed to mobile wireless, from fiber to microwaves and everything in between.
Broadband is a key feature at IWCE, as our audience of public safety, government, transportation, utilities and enterprise professionals seek reliable, affordable and fast Internet technologies, providers and partnerships.
Public safety in particular is going through a massive revolution as FirstNet begins to truly take shape as the nation's broadband public safety network. Hear the status of that network straight from FirstNet and its network partner AT&T in two keynote addresses, one from AT&T Business CEO Thaddeus Arroyo, the other from FirstNet CEO Mike Poth. In addition, Michael Maiorana, senior vice president, Public Sector at Verizon, is slated to share his viewpoint on the changing world of broadband.
Of course, 5G is top-of-mind for providers, vendors and end-customers in both the fixed and mobile worlds. And, as Broadband World News has frequently discussed, the debate over rural broadband continues to roar. The event includes sessions dedicated to these topics, as well as smart homes, security and Internet of Things.
BBWN Editor Alison Diana moderates a three-hour Women of Wireless Workshop. The goal, Alison told me, is for attendees to leave feeling empowered from hearing speakers' success stories and tales of how they overcame challenges, and to have action items they can use to advance their careers and create change within their organizations, if needed, as well as the industry as a whole.
