StarHub Appoints Kaliaropoulos New CEOBroadband World News, , 4/20/2018
SINGAPORE -- StarHub Ltd today announced the appointment of Peter Kaliaropoulos (Peter K) as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the group, beginning 9 July 2018. Kaliaropoulos brings with him over 35 years of experience in the global ICT sector working with senior executive teams to drive growth and transformation. Kaliaropoulos will join StarHub from Zain Saudi Arabia, a $2 billion company, where as CEO, he led the company to its first ever net profit in 2017 after 10 years of operations. His previous experience includes senior leadership roles as CEO, managing director and chief operating officer with a number of wireless and fully integrated companies including BT (Asia Pacific), Telstra (Australia & USA), Optus (Australia), Clear (New Zealand), Batelco (Middle East) and Ooredoo (Kuwait). Kaliaropoulos was also a key member of the StarHub senior executive team which launched the company operations in the Singapore market in April 2000. Kaliaropoulos also led a significant number of acquisitions and contributed as a board director to a number of telecommunications companies and ICT start-ups in Australia, USA, Singapore, India and the Middle East. "As a telco veteran with a proven track record of achievements across a wide range of markets, and broad industry knowledge, the board is confident that Peter is well qualified to lead StarHub in pursuing new opportunities and managing the challenges that operators face today," said Terry Clontz, chairman of StarHub Ltd. Kaliaropoulos holds a Master of Business Administration, Marketing & Strategy from the Macquarie University, Australia and a Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical Engineering from the University of NSW, Australia. Incumbents operate in “islands” of connectivity, serving densely populated areas and, at a national scale, perpetuating the digital divide in the gaps in between their service footprints. Regional ISPs have a clear role in closing that gap. These regional ISPs operate in a highly fragmented landscape, including smaller wireless and FTTH incumbents, satellite ISPs, electric co-ops, tribal communities, and municipalities in public/private partnerships. These regional ISPs face the same cyber threats and operational challenges as their Tier 1 counterparts, but with far fewer resources and revenue-generating population density.
