Network professionals expect corporate bandwidth demands to continue unabated through 2021, with 12% predicting that demands will at least double by then, according to Viavi's annual State of the Network report.
In the survey of more than 600 security and network pros from multiple countries, 46% said bandwidth demand will grow up to 50%, while 41% said their bandwidth needs will increase between 51% and 100%. And 8% see growth of 101% to 150% by 2021, while 4% expect a surge in user requirements will propel needs more than 150%, this year's research found.
Last year, 40% said bandwidth needs would grow up to 50% between 2018 and 2020; 42% said 51% to 100%; 8% said 101% to 150%; and 10% said more than 151%, according to the State of the Network 2018.
Five years ago, by comparison, 77% predicted they would require a 50% increase in bandwidth, 15% expected growth of 51% to 100% and 8% said they would require more than 100% for their networks, the State of the Network 2014 found.
